I am being threatened with court action - what should I do?

If you are being threatened with court action you should contact your lender/creditor straight away. It is much better to try to resolve the situation and come to an agreement before it goes to court.

If you have evidence that you can pay off your debt make sure you send a copy or the evidence (for example a job offer, offer for your house etc.) to your lender and their solicitors.

If you are in financial difficulty and unable to pay off the debt, you should consider debt consolidation or a debt consolidation mortgage. In certain circumstances you may consider an IVA (individual voluntary agreement).

If the court proceedings go ahead bear in mind that you will not go to prison, but you may end up with a CCJ against you and poor credit rating.
